We Gotta Make a Change

I haven't written a lot about CFB this year and the main reason is that CFB is absolutely insane.

Honestly.

I mean let's take a quick little looksie at the BCS top 25.

Yeah still 10 undefeated teams. To be sure, 4 of them are guaranteed to lose. Or are they? But still if you just take 30 minutes to look at the teams and schedules you'll see that there is a possibility of Boise/TCU national championship. Not saying it will happen, but the threat is there. What's worse is that there is a scenario where undefeated teams won't have the right to play for the MNC.

I mean honestly, I get it. Alabama lost, but are you really going to choose any team other than maybe Auburn,Oregon, and Oklahoma over them. Maybe the LSU lucky charms? But shit even that's pushing it. Furthermore, we could have a situation where a team with a shit schedule can win the MNC. And yes, I'm looking at you Oregon. Don't get me wrong, Oregon is a great football team, but call me skeptical when the quality win on your schedule is Stanford.....Stanford!!!

You all know by now that I'm in no way an SEC supporter, but it just sucks to be penalized playing in the best conference in the nation. Shit, The SEC SEC West is like a fucking minefield.

It's kinda nice being in the position I'm in because as a VT fan, my hopes and dreams are always demolished in the first two weeks of the season every year so I can just sit back and hope for chaos. You see, the BCS will never go away through politics, or convincing university presidents. No, we need chaos.

I kinda feel like Steve Buschemi in Armageddon. I have a front seat to the end of the world BCS. See I don't want to see a 3-4 team controversy. NO, I WANT 25 2 LOSS TEAMS. COMPLETE AND UTTER CHAOS. So I ask you to join with me in my little endeavor of rooting for everyone to lose. Cast aside your homerisims and biases and join me in the revolution.

(Apologies to Bruce Hornsby, but Tupac's version is just much much better)

CFB wrap up

Ok before we start into the NFL I think it's about time we all get a little bit of closure from this past season.

Rammer Jammer yellow hammer congratulations Alabama.
It makes sense. And let's face it, Alabama was the team to beat after the start of this season. And I've never been more happy to be in the North than right now because I'm far far away from stupid celebrations and overall fan stupidity. On another note, Nick. I understand you were happy about the win from a "process standpoint" but really, a smile every now and again will help the anti-christ rumors. (But really, Saban is a great coach, reading his book, and I think Alabama is going to move into USC dominance territory.)

STOP IT, JUST STOP IT.
Look, losing Colt McCoy sucked...hard. But stop saying "don't they have anyone better to put back there....This just shows how incomplete Texas was blah blah blah" First of all. Texas did have someone behind McCoy. Garret Gilbert was a five star coming out of high school and he was the #2 rated QB behind Matt Barkley....you know the guy who started for USC. The other thing is that he was playing against ALABAMA. The team that crucified Tebow. (although he did rise the third day to destroy Cincy to sit at the right hand of God the father almighty) You realize only one team scored more on Alabama and that team was...Virginia Tech WTF!?!?

I'm Sorry
I'm Sorry Brian Stinespring. You haven't heard me but I've called you very bad names during VT football games, I've made fun of your pussy Skoal pouches and bitch ass Disani spitter, but you did fine this year and you got Tyrod to stop jumping around in the pocket. Although I think you had some help from RYAN WILLIAMS. Although I admit sometimes when I close my eyes at night I imagine Leach would come to Blacksburg, team up with Bud Foster to form Optimus Prime, and destroy college football.

Teams I like next year
Other than the obvious ones
Iowa
Arkansas
Oregon
Pitt
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Notre Dame. (HA I'm just fing around ND blows)

But the biggest one is Nebraska. I know I'm supposed to hate them, but I really do like the program and the history. I really want to root for them and I get close to doing it....until I talk to one of their fans.

Ever talk to a Nebraska fan? It's excruciating. They are so nice...Almost too nice, but everything always turns into some passive aggressive attempt to show you the greatness of NU football.

Ever have a conversation with a child of the corn?

Me: Yeah so I went to the Tech UVA game and there was a ton of Tech fans it was...

Herbie Husker: Yeah well NEBRASKA typically travels the best in all of CFB, here let me show you a picture of the time so many NEBRASKA fans went to South Bend. We started chanting Husker home game. Do you want a cupcake.

Me: Uh no, but....

HH: You also know we have the record for most home game sellouts.

Me: Cool, But yeah I wish it was at Lane stadium beca.....

HH: Hey let me ask you a question, Can officials just change rules?

Me: What?

HH: You know can they just make up their own rules?

Me: Not following.

HH: Well in the Big 12 championship that NEBRASKA was leading the officials reviewed the clock which isn't in the rule book.

Me: Sure it is.

HH: Well you're young so you wouldn't really know these things. Here is a lollipop. But you can't review the clock.

Me: yeah actually you can and should.
/google's NCAA rulebook, shows relavant ruling.

HH: Well they got the call wrong.

Me: /youtube's the final play.

HH: Well they won't win anyway you know NEBRASKA had the number one defense.

Me: Scoring defense.

HH: HH: Yes, Number 1. You know I played at Millard directional high school. They won the state championship, one of the best teams in the country.

Me: Didn't see them on any top 25 polls.

HH: Well it was the NEBRASKA State Championship Here is some apple pie. You know I met DR. TOM OSBORNE.

Me: LAWRENCE PHILLIPS, STEROIDS, BILL CALLAHAN. AHHHHHHHHHHH
/takes apple pie
//Throws it at inflatable Husker
///Husker deflates.

Seriously Nebraska chill the F out.
You know what the N in Nebraska stands for? nowledge.

Troy is burning.
Pete is no dummy.

BCS is that guy.

Ok I get it. There are logistical on financial things that I CAN'T POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND concerning playoffs in CFB. I can stomach it, and actually understand it to some degree. For a lot of student athletes the bowls provide a great experience. (although I don't know why you would have to get rid of them) Personally the playoff thing gets old every year and I get tired of everyone telling me their fail proof playoff plan. But then the BCS had to go an piss me off with the Inside the BCS twitter feed. Whatever BCS intern is running that thing has become aggressively more idiotic over the past month. Here are some highlights, with my breakdown FJM style.

"The last week of the NFL this year is proof playoffs suck"

You do realize the "last week" of CFB includes conference championship games?

"
BYU, Miami (Fla.), West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Stanford, Nebraska, Utah, USC and Wisconsin. They won’t be happy about being left out of this 16-team playoff scheme."

They probably would be upset, perhaps they should have done better in the regular season.

"
In Dan’s playoff include Alabama vs. Troy; Texas vs. East Carolina, and Cincinnati vs. Central Michigan. Dan calls these “must-see” games, but the bowls are far better at creating compelling and competitive matchups."

They are more compelling than when Florida plays Charleston Southern to boost BCS points. And I dont think anyone wants to get rid of bowls...bowls are awesome.

"
Then there is the travel burden his plan would impose on fans. In Mr. Wetzel’s playoff, Penn State would travel 984 miles to the Swamp to play the Gators in the first round. If the Nittany Lions were to win and the higher seeds win other games, they would pack their bags and fly 1,392 miles to Fort Worth to face TCU the next week."

I KNOW I wonder how the NFL does it? Or teams in the Basketball tournament? Although you could just give an auto bid to NEBRASKA because NEBRASKA fans always travel the best in all of CFB.

Here's the thing, if the BCS just came out and said, "look we are the best you have in the current structure, we typically try to find the best two teams to play for the national championship" I'd have no problem. And like I said earlier I understand the economic/logistics argument BUT don't come out and try to tell me from a fan's perspective that playoffs wouldn't ROCK FLAG AND EAAAAAAAGGGGGLEEE.

CFB Preview

#6 Penn State

Offense: 5 returners, however SR QB Daryll Clark and JR RB Evan Royster are key cogs in the offense. JR C Stefan Wisniewski will anchor the O-Line.

Defense: 4 returners LB's Sean Lee and Navaro Bowman will be the key guys. LB Mike Mauti will miss this season due to a popped ACL.

Special Teams: Getting as many jersey chasers as they can.

Initial Thoughts: Almost homerism.

Ok I talked about Old State earlier this summer. I think I did a good job breaking down this season, so read it. If you want the cliff notes. Nice schedule, Clark/Royster, Defense.

but before I begin a couple other points. For as long as I can remember Old State has been balling. Other than Tech, they were the team I watched as a I grew up and I'm not ashamed to say that, yes, I am a PSU fan. If you remember there was a 5 year period where State was down. (by State standards) and I think this is directly correlated to Joepa. It's not his fault. My opinion is that for those years many recruits were up in the air about whether Joe would retire or not. Now it's clear that. 1. Joe will never give up football. 2. IF he does there is a staff in place that will go along with the SOP at State. I also want to address the issue that Joe is too old to know football. If you believe that you are FALSE.

/Coach porn

Joe played against (he was a CB, Brown was a SW team) the single wing offense at Brown University. And to make a long story short, the single wing is the foundation for what we consider modern football. But more to the point, it was JOE who wanted to move towards a more athletic QB to run the offense, in accordance with the single wing. So for all the Joe haters....eat it.

/end

Now what we can really talk about is the Big 10 (11). I don't really get the hate towards the Big 10 (11). The only thing I can understand is that they get into big bowl games and suck. If that's the case don't get pissed off at the Big 10 (11) get pissed at the BCS because that's the system that put them there. If we want to talk about SEC vs. Big 10 (11) that's fine, but let's look at some bowl games. Sure in the past several years the Big 10 (11) isn't all Denise Milani, but let's look at some bowl games.

Capitol One Bowl since 2003: Big 10 (11) 4 wins SEC 2

Outback Bowl since 2003: Big 10 (11) 3 wins SEC 3

So spare me the "SEC is soooooooo much harder than the Big 10. I don't believe it. And if we really want to get technical, the Big 12 South is currently the toughest division in football. Now I'll admit, crazy shit happens in the SEC, but it also happens in other conferences. It's not that I'm ripping on the SEC because I still believe it's the best conference. However that's the inherent problem, we should be looking at the best TEAMS instead of listening to ESPN jack off the entire south every week. Again I question the SEC dominance simply because in a playoff system I question 1. Whether they could go into Ohio Pennsylvania and Michigan in December. 2. A certain team located in Southern California.

But alas, that is the world we live in, and until we leave that world the pissing match between conferences will continue.

Oh. Penn State. Yeah I'm expecting one loss, which shouldn't put them in the MNC in my opinion. But if they can go undefeated, and they can, most of you will be hating the world.

Edit: I think the Rose bowl game last year shows that USC has been deserving of a BCS championship the past several years and...PSU WILL NEVER GET OUT OF COVER 3, WHAT THE HELL. The other thing is that yes, the Big 10 (11) has declined and I have my own theories on why that happened and will continue if we want to go that route in the comment section.

Guest Post: T.W Samuels

Many of the writers on this blog were friends with this one guy in college. His name is T.W Samuels. While we all had some great memories many of us have moved on with our Lives. T.W, however, likes the college lifestyle, and travels around the country crashing at various homes. The other night at 3:00 am I received a knock at my door. It was T.W. He has been sleeping on my couch ever since and will not leave until he gets to post on GRH.

Take it away T.W:
